Is DraftPlanar the same as Draft Planner?

DraftPlanar (sometimes searched as 'Draft Planner' or 'DraftPlanner') is a professional PDF viewer and plan markup app built for architects, engineers, and construction teams. It opens drawing sets on an infinite canvas, takes off length, area, angle and count from the vector geometry, and adds Apple Pencil markup, punch-list notes, revision compare and on-device text search. Available on macOS, iPad, and iPhone.

DraftPlanar is free to download and includes a 14-day free trial of every Pro tool. After the trial, importing documents, markup, measurement, compare, search, layers, notes and export need a DraftPlanar Pro subscription, monthly or annual. Canvases you created stay open to view.

Does DraftPlanar work on Mac and iPad?

Yes. DraftPlanar is one universal app for Mac, iPad and iPhone, and one subscription covers all three. On Mac it is built for a large display, keyboard shortcuts and trackpad; on iPad for Apple Pencil markup, touch measurement with a magnifier, and notes with photos or voice memos.

Can DraftPlanar do quantity takeoff from PDF drawings?

Yes. DraftPlanar measures length chains, area and perimeter, angles and counts directly from the PDF's vector geometry, keeps a separate scale for every sheet, and reads the scale printed in the title block. Takeoff items are listed beside the plan. Measurements are approximate and should be verified for critical dimensions.

Does DraftPlanar work offline?

Yes. DraftPlanar is built on a local-first philosophy. All rendering, measurement, OCR, and markup features work entirely offline. Your documents never leave your device.

This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is between you and Draft Planar LLC ("Developer," "we," "us," or "our"), and not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). Draft Planar LLC, not Apple, is solely responsible for the DraftPlanar application ("Application") and the content thereof.

1. Scope of License

Draft Planar LLC grants you a non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the Application on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules set forth in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

2. Payment & Refunds

Freemium Application: DraftPlanar is available as a free download with optional premium features available via in-app purchase through the Apple App Store. All payments are processed by Apple.

Refunds: All refund requests must be directed to Apple Support. As a Developer, we do not have access to your billing information or the ability to issue direct refunds.

3. Critical Disclaimer: Measurements & Accuracy

WARNING: DraftPlanar is a visualization and reference tool for AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) professionals. It is not a substitute for certified CAD software, professional surveying equipment, or physical field measurements.

While our Metal rendering engine provides high-precision vector viewing, all digital measurements are approximate and may vary based on PDF source quality, calibration settings, scale configuration, and device hardware. You must independently verify all measurements and dimensions before relying on them for any purpose, including but not limited to construction, fabrication, procurement, or any other activity.

Draft Planar LLC makes no representations or warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any measurements displayed in the Application. Draft Planar LLC is not responsible for any errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in measurements, and shall not be liable for any damages, costs, material waste, rework, structural failures, personal injury, or any other losses arising from reliance on measurements or data provided by the Application.

3a. Data Backup & Data Loss

IMPORTANT: You are solely responsible for maintaining backups of your documents, annotations, projects, and any other data used with DraftPlanar.

DraftPlanar stores all data locally on your device. Data may be lost due to device failure, software updates, operating system changes, accidental deletion, or other causes beyond our control. If you use iCloud Drive for syncing, that service is provided by Apple and subject to Apple's terms and conditions.

Draft Planar LLC is not responsible for any data loss, corruption, or inability to access your files, regardless of the cause. We strongly recommend that you regularly back up all important documents and project files using your preferred backup solution.

3b. Rendering & Color Accuracy

Dark / Adaptive Theme: DraftPlanar offers an Adaptive theme mode that adjusts document colors for comfortable viewing in dark environments. When Adaptive theme is enabled, the colors displayed on screen will differ from the original document colors. This color transformation is intentional for readability and is not a defect. Always switch to Original theme mode when color accuracy is critical, such as during material selection, finish matching, or any color-sensitive review.

PDF Blend Modes: Some PDF documents use advanced compositing blend modes (e.g., Multiply, Screen, Overlay) to achieve specific visual effects. DraftPlanar's Metal rendering engine may ignore, approximate, or render differently certain blend modes compared to other PDF viewers. This may cause visual discrepancies in documents that rely heavily on blend-mode compositing. Draft Planar LLC makes no guarantee that all PDF blend modes will be rendered identically to other software.

General Visual Rendering: DraftPlanar uses a custom Metal-based rendering pipeline optimized for architectural and construction documents. In some cases, the visual appearance of a PDF in DraftPlanar may differ from the rendering in other PDF viewers, including but not limited to differences in font substitution, gradient rendering, transparency handling, clipping paths, pattern fills, and color space interpretation. These differences are inherent to independent PDF rendering implementations and do not constitute a defect.

Draft Planar LLC is not responsible for any decisions made based on color appearance or visual rendering when Adaptive theme is enabled, or when documents use blend modes or other PDF features that may not be fully supported. For color-critical, compositing-critical, or legally binding reviews, always verify content against the original document using an official PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat or Apple Preview.

3c. OCR & PDF Export

OCR (Optical Character Recognition): DraftPlanar provides on-device OCR to enable text selection and search within scanned or image-based PDF documents. OCR results are generated by machine-learning models and may contain errors, omissions, or misrecognized characters. The accuracy of OCR output depends on document quality, resolution, font style, language, and other factors. You must not rely on OCR-extracted text for legally binding, contractual, or safety-critical purposes without independent verification against the source document.

PDF Export & Sharing: When exporting or sharing annotated documents, the exported PDF may contain missing content, extra content, misplaced annotations, or other discrepancies compared to what is displayed on screen. These differences may arise from software errors, unsupported PDF features, or limitations in the export pipeline. Always review exported PDFs carefully before distributing or archiving them.

Draft Planar LLC is not responsible for any errors in OCR-extracted text or any content discrepancies in exported PDFs. Use all OCR and export features with caution and verify output before relying on it for any purpose.

4. Intellectual Property

Your Content: You retain all rights, title, and interest in any content you create, import, or modify using DraftPlanar. Draft Planar LLC does not claim any ownership of your documents, drawings, annotations, or any other user-generated content.

Our Software: The Application, including its source code, graphics, user interface, and documentation, is the intellectual property of Draft Planar LLC and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Application except as expressly permitted by applicable law.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Draft Planar LLC be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (a) your use of or inability to use the Application; (b) any unauthorized access to or alteration of your data; or (c) any other matter relating to the Application.

Draft Planar LLC's total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to this Agreement or the Application shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Application in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

6. Maintenance & Support

Draft Planar LLC is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support services for the Application. You acknowledge that Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance and support services with respect to the Application.

7. Warranty

The Application is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. In the event of any failure of the Application to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the Application.

8. Termination

This Agreement is effective until terminated. Your rights under this Agreement will terminate automatically without notice if you fail to comply with any of its terms. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Application and delete all copies from your devices. You may terminate this Agreement at any time by deleting the Application from your devices.

9. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any legal action or proceeding arising under this Agreement shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue of such courts.

10. Dispute Resolution

Before initiating any formal legal proceedings, you agree to first contact us at support@draftplanar.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least thirty (30) days. If the dispute is not resolved within that period, either party may pursue the remedies available under this Agreement.

11. Third Party Beneficiary

You acknowledge and agree that Apple, and Apple's subsidiaries, are third party beneficiaries of this Agreement, and that, upon your acceptance of the terms and conditions of this Agreement, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce this Agreement against you as a third party beneficiary thereof.

12. General Provisions

Entire Agreement: This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and Draft Planar LLC regarding the Application and supersedes all prior agreements and understandings.

Severability: If any provision of this Agreement is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

Waiver: The failure of Draft Planar LLC to exercise any right or provision of this Agreement shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

Changes to Terms: We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Application after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
